February- All You Need Is Love


Love is in the air. This year it seems like everyone I know is getting engaged and it's weird, weird, weird, but happy for those in love. There was a lot of love going around in my life in the month of February. To kick off the month of love my oldest biological niece turned 16. Now that was weird, talk about feeling old. I swear it was just yesterday she was a baby but I love her as much today as I did the day she was born and i was an aunt for the first time. Shortly following the beginning of the month Kate's mom, Grammy Hootie, and Kara came down to visit. They took us out to dinner and spent some quality time with us girls. Love those women with all my heart. They are the closest thing to family to me without technically being family... at least not yet that is. ;)
The next weekend we made our way up North to visit our good friend Tiff and for a few other items of business.
We had a great weekend but it didn't feel like much of a weekend with all the running around we did. Our weekend consisted of going to Zach's basketball game, going shopping, going to my job interview, and visiting with friends and family in between all of that but it was a good weekend to spend some quality time with some of the people we love the most in this world. My running program for my race also started this week and of course it starts the week I get sick. So far so good though. I've pulled through and I'm sticking to it. Of course in the month of February everyone is either anticipating or dreading the beloved holiday of Valentines Day. I was kind of dreading it this year to be honest because I was lonely and certain people were on my mind. Some days are easier than others but the day of love I was expecting to be a little harder. I ended up getting pretty sick and losing my voice a few days before the day of Valentines and was still didn't quite have much of a voice so I stayed home that day. Katy and I decided that we weren't going to let the fact that none of us having a lover for Valentines get us down. So as the girls were at school and work, we worked and worked all day to create something special for them for that evening. Valentines fell on a Monday this year so it was perfect! We made a delicious candlelight dinner (not to mention all the delicious desserts) and watched the bachelor with the girls. It was lovely and we were all pretty content with the fact that we may not have had boyfriends for this holiday of L-O-V-E but we had each other. :) (no pictures of that night are included considering we all were looking pretty rough that evening. ) That Saturday, one of my very best friends, Marla was going to become a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and get baptized. The week leading up to that baptism was rough and the adversary was working very hard on Marla and all of us but we made it through! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I am so grateful for that experience and for Marla's ongoing example to me and everyone she surrounds herself with. The whole process has seriously made me contemplate serving a mission so much more. Missionary work is the best!!!! There were so many people who came and supported Marla and had the chance to feel of her sweet, sincere spirit. I loved watching her face throughout the day. Just seeing her so happy brings much joy to me and many others. This was an example of true happiness. I love Marla so much and I'm grateful for her. This week has been good. As we went and hung out with some of the best guys I know and I thought to myself, wow, I am so lucky to have such amazing people in my life. I have so much love for those who have touched me in some way or another. My family, my friends, my co-workers, the checker at Walmart, someone who compliments my outfit, someone I help at the Financial Aid desk, the baby who smiles at me as they walk by. I have an incredible love for people in general and can't help but love pretty much everyone and everything. We are just so blessed!! This month has really been a month of love and blessings. I'm so grateful for everything I have and for the blessing of being able to love. It can be hard to love sometimes but I honestly believe that it is harder to not love than to love. Also, love can be a scary thing. As humans we are scared to get hurt and loving can be scary. So my ending thoughts are these two quotes:

We can't live in this life without loving. Whether you like it or not, it's not possible. So love a little. Give it a try. After all, it's easier than not loving. Another quote that has been on my mind lately is this:

So as this month of love comes to a close, let's remember to love throughout this year. Let's remember to be kind and show compassion for one another. We are all in this together and life isn't easy for anyone. Lastly, remember to be grateful. Life is good, and so are all of you.
